Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “önemsiz sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine destelanmasıyla oluşan kesik polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız sözıntısı ile ötekisi arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok adetda polipeptit madun birimi çitndırır). Ana nüans peptitlerin kesik, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino hamız, sair amino asite devamlı, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle destelanır. Polipeptid binasına peklan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid destelarıyla destelanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Malum en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine peklan amino asitlere sözıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki sözıntı, bağ yapmamış, boydak amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin sair ucundaki boydak α-karboksil grubu olan sözıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
